Creep

You can start writing at any time, but make sure you post your story by the

26th of January

to have a link shared here and on social media.

Once you’ve posted your story, put a link into the comments section, and we’ll add your story to the Battle Stories Line-up post that goes live the 3rd Friday of the month (the same as the post-by date).

Make sure to check back and read some of the stories of your fellow battlers. Leave comments to encourage these writers. And go a step further in supporting one another by sharing each other’s stories on your own blog or social media, whatever you’re most comfortable with.

Basic Rules:

The Prompt Word will be given the First FRIDAY of every month.

Post your story by the 3rd Friday of the same month (this is the same date as the Stories post goes live).

RULES

  1. Up to 2000 words max (give or take a few).
  2. Fictional tale (or true if you really want, but see rule 8 first).
  3. Any genre that fits within PG-13 (or less). Please keep this family friendly.
  4. Your story must contain the randomly chosen word(s) and/or be centred around the word meaning in a way that shows it is clearly related.
  5. Go for the entertainment value and have fun.
  6. Put a link back to your #BlogBattle Short Story in the comments section.
  7. Please tweet and otherwise share your battler buddies’ stories across social media. (Use the #BlogBattle when using the platform formally know as Twitter so that we can cross-share.
  8. Avoid opinionizing your piece or associating it with a real person. i.e. if you have strong religious or political views then do not use them as a storyline to avoid indirectly insulting anyone or creating an argument.
Any photos included with the prompt are only for your benefit as a pinch of inspiration. They don’t need to dictate your theme or story genre. Only the Word of the Month counts! Photos are thanks to public domain photo sharing sites like Unsplash and Pixabay.

      Here is what I tried to say

      Not bad since you said it was a tricky one to do Marian. It is always fascinating to consider how many unknown species still exist, and a good one to divert into fiction, a bit like the Loch Ness monster myth. It propagates despite the Loch’s biomass not being able to support a large creature. Folklore demands such legends. They also exist in most old cultures from the past, from Inca to Egypt. I will also admit now that there are a few tricky words this time around, too, haha.

      • Thanks Gary, sorry I’m not great at Technology.. heck knows what is wrong with it. Last time I had a query on my blog it ended up completely messed up and i had to contact jetpack. I think with this one I needed alot more time. There is never enough time.. work, kids, kids homework, life. I guess though it’s also part of the fun.. writing something with very little preparation as time for preparation and rewriting just isn’t there. I’m sure there are many unknown species.. I would guess that not all animals stick to their own species so other species then develop. Interesting one to think about..

        • Welcome to the world of the pantser Marian. I never prepare as such I just SOC it. With practice that works pretty ok for me and Roger. On BB I try and get 500 to 600 words a day per prompt. As you say, time is often tight so preparing never really happens.

          For me most unknown large species are probably in the oceans now. Arcetusis took years to film alive. The coelacanth was thought to be extinct and isn’t. On land it’s probably small animals now such as insects. The way we are destroying habitat there’s shrinking habitats. That said it may force unknowns into “our” areas by default.

          It’s worth contacting WP with the fault name. They should try a test comment and then figure it out maybe.

  6. Well, now it’s become my turn to bow out for a little while so I can get this latest book edited to where I actually like it. Maybe I can still pop in occasionally – although it’s an awfully great word this month to miss out on – and Gary, I’ll keep looking in and try to help out with keeping stories posted. Hopefully this won’t last for too many months!

    And then get my TARDIS geared up to deliver the work on time. But I guess you have that already. So you know more than I do….
