As with all simple words haha. Next years has a few puzzlers I shall wager. I had a double take on one and I made the list 😳

You know where you are with a puzzler, they concentrate the mind. Common words have you running off in all possibilities (and multiple endings 😟)
I look forward to the next year’s offerings.😀

Ok huge apologies – how do I stop it from posting the full post on here.? Sorry

Sometimes it happens for no real reason. The fix I use is to insert a “read more” line after a brief intro or insert metadata into the image. That way the algorithms pick up short text either from the image URL of chop lines out of the body text instead. If there’s no breaker (I’d read more line) it will take the lot.
No need to apologise when asking a question either. It’s the only way to learn 😂
Of course my solution might not fix all but its worth a try. To put meta data in either use it via Yoast which allows you to show how an image is intercepted by Google search of edit the image from the media library.

Ok I’m hoping that works. I deleted the metadata and then copied the lines that guess it may now post. This can be quite complex, thanks Gary!

ok think I give up!! thanks for trying to help me!

Only complex when we can’t figure what should be flipping easy out. You’re not alone wet this problem. I think it’s to do with the read more line. That fixed mine by causing a text break so Google didn’t pass beyond that and neither does WP when I drop a link here now.

I tried to comment, but it said, “Nonce verification failed.” So I’ve pasted what I said here.
Full of the self-doubt and overthinking that often undoes us, Marian. Auditions can be hard going as often applicants are first timers or the details have not been specific enough, so it ends up ad hoc and at the whims of stage fright. The overthinking part is blatant in the final paragraph. A rational mind would not even contest it. Keep the job, wait for news and maybe feel pessimistic. What is done is done, and we move forward in the day. It’s easy to say that, though, often not so easy to do!

Thanks Gary, don’t know why it wouldn’t post.. yes all we can do in life is do our best and hope!

Might be worth asking the happiness engineers to look into it maybe. I’ve found them useful a few times.

Its strange because it let me comment, which I’ve now deleted.. I hate technology!

Sounds like a spam filter issue. Sometimes they block new comments. Try looking at pending comments to see if any are waiting for approval.

Hey, Marian! I got the same error message Gary did, so here’s my comment:
This was a tense story in a good way. The beginning immediately leads you in to what Jilly is feeling, tugged back and forth between anticipation and dread. Nice touch where you ended it at her success on completing the first round, but her future is still uncertain. Good to see you on BlogBattle again!

Thanks for your comment. I can only imagine what it would really be like to perform like that. Many years ago I would have loved to have tried. Today fear would put me off trying!

After a long time not writing, I have neglected my house to write this. Feels good to be writing again. When I was at school I wanted to be Jilly.. I had dreams but no I never succeeded – not sure if I would really have the confidence to do this. Dancing and singing on the school bench is very different to a talent show, hope you enjoy reading it..

You know I was just looking through my Pinterest board labelled Big Up Your Blog and I got really nostalgic wondering where all my blogging friends were and how they are doing. Is a coincidence to see you here after so long? Absolutely brilliant to see you again. Really must catch up

Thanks Gary! Life has just got so busy, but I need to get back to my writing., Today I have achieved nothing other than this blog post. Then going down the rabbit hole of increasing engagement on Facebook – though the priority here is to just write. Thanks Gary, nice to see you are still here!

No worries. I’ll look into it further and see if I get any other ideas to try. As for FB. I had an 18-month out period to reset. Things like FB I avoid now as I don’t see much benefit anymore. I feel much better for that too. I still use Instagram and Pinterest though. But I have scaled back to focus on writing now. Which since doing the above has come back much stronger in terms of productivity.

It is all very time consuming! What frustrates me is the people that get thousands of likes and comments just for being them. I spend most of the morning writing and then Facebook shows it to very few people. It is hard work but maybe just writing for ourselves maybe is the way to go! and not getting stressed over facebook comments and likes.. Yes I completely understand the 18 month off to reset..

Most of them I think post gibberish and often buy services to promote posts so that alone targets a demographic which give likes. Keep in mind most likes are false in that most people just hit it without reading or referring. I’d they have no clue what it is they have liked. FB is powered now by ad placement. Here it’s called blaze your post. I tried it on Instagram a year or two ago and it taught me that huge like use that to generate them.
FB post BUYB was just affecting my MH. It’s why I gave it up. I’ve heard a lot of people say what you just did… time intensive for little return.
Ergo I came back in a better place with more focussed approaches. I find this a much better place to be now too. Met some really good people doing BB.
That said I’m an admin for it too haha

I cllicked on Ad placement just now out of curiousity and im sure it would have let me place an ad and then billed me afterwards. I’m certainly not paying for ads. I’m sure you are right about the people hitting like with not reading.. and yes Facebook is really not great for your MH.
Ive always enjoyed Blog Battle so here I am..

It was curiosity that made me try it on Instagram. I got 1k likes with no referrals which confirmed what I thought. If I was published I may try it again but until then no way. I feel it much better to follow your instincts now, if it feels wrong don’t dither, drop it and do what you enjoy. That definitely was not FB.
Really hope you are here more now too. 🙂

Thanks Gary I am going to try. The bigger battle is the time my blog takes, and family commitments – homework etc.. I do enjoy my writing though and I would love to get my book published before I am 50.. lots of work! and lots of writing and rewriting!

Time is always a writer’s adversary. I struggle too as I’ve got several projects on the go with one almost at the end!

The current one is part of my world build Dragon Stone. Almost 100K and very close to the end. Its back story has been on here for over a year. I found it invaluable as a way to create and improve characters without having to do accursed character sheets lol

That sounds like alot of work! Good that you have been able to use your blog to help develop it.
Mine is at about 75000 words and I’ve barely looked at since 2020.. its stuck in my one drive cloud and I need to look at it again! Good luck with it all! Writing really is alot of work!

That’s just one. I’ve finished another and have the next book ready to after ending DS. Much of mine were in limbo too. Especially when I lost motivation. The time out was needed to make me realize what is important. I think you can do it too. Just decide where best to put the time. Losing socual media sure made me rethink that part

I will be getting around to reading DS soon, promise.
Good news is, all this is making me a more disciplined reader again 😀

Haha as King says, reading gives you the tools to write. Did some more this morning and being a stream of conscious its turning up more curve balls.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I reckon stream of consciousness and pantsing are the only ways to truly get Fantasy done; after all the unexpected has to happen. You have to love the challenge of those curve balls.

Very true and both are the way I write now. I think I may have just finished DS bar an epilogue round up too. It just hit 100k. So might even get it done this week now 😳

Well done. Gary.
I started reading DS from the doc you recently sent. and will keep you updated with an ongoing feedback🙂
This will be my first full immersion into the atmospheric world.

I hope knowing quite a few parts of the back story from here now start slotting into place a bit. I reckon you will already know most of the characters although more than a few have not featured here.

I’ll send over the final document once I’ve done the epilogue. I think the one I sent over is missing that and chapter 19. Not sure it’s ended with all the subplots completed or set up for the next one. Then again first draft and all that!

My first drafts tend to be re-titled as ‘What were you thinking of when you wrote THAT????????’
No first draft of mine ever gets a repeal on its trip to the shredder or ‘Delete’ / ‘Empty Recycling Bin’

Haha. Agreed. I’m now trying to tie in the Letters with arch mage setting up the trap again. Aging memory is really problematic at times 😂

Ah Continuity.
No matter how inventive us Fantasy writers are with our World Builds, bringing forth all kinds of clever and inventive tweaks to Reality, Temporal Flows, Variable Worlds, Natural Forces of Nature, Abilities Forged By Years of Study or Freak Inheritances, at the end of the day we still cannot avoid Continuity.
The Final and Grim Arbiter Whose Reach In Beyond All Inventiveness. That Which sits in judgement over our works and That Which we must submit our actions unto.
(Now I can’t get up from my prone kneeling supplications to this Deity of Writing ……another problem with age🤨)

Ah yes. Just had a birthday texr from my elderly neighbour saying 21 again. My reply was love to be but without the aches and pains…
I have now just three missives left on this opus manga. Although I am waiting for another numpty that took the windscreen out so the pillars could be repainted then put the blasted rear view mirror on upside down… WTF. How is that possible I ask myself
