Words & Genres for February ’17 Battles

 

In preparation for February’s battles, here are the theme words and genres. We’re looking forward to enjoying your stories!

February 7th

  • THEME WORD: Adore
  • GENRE: Historical Fiction
    • Historical fiction – story with fictional characters and events in a historical setting

February 14th

  • THEME WORD: Cowboy
  • GENRE:  Realistic Fiction

February 21st

  • THEME WORD: Shine
  • GENRE: Folklore
    • Folklore – the songs, stories, myths, and proverbs of a people or “folk” as handed down by word of mouth

February 28th

  • THEME WORD: Melody
  • GENRE: Historical Fiction
    • Historical fiction – story with fictional characters and events in a historical setting
      • Some jump-off ideas:
        • Regency
        • Medieval
        • Greco-Roman
        • Incan/Aztec
        • War (e.g. WWI, Cold War, 100 Years War, etc)
        • You-pick Century (B.C. (B.C.E.) or A.D. (C.E.))
        • You-pick Geographical (continent/country)
        • Influential people in history
        • One of your own ancestors
    • SUGGESTED Subcategory: Western  – set in the American Old West frontier and typically set in the late eighteenth to late nineteenth century
