You can start writing at any time, but make sure you post your story by the

15th of October

to have a link shared here and on social media.

Once you’ve posted your story to your blog, put a link to it in the comments section, and we’ll add your story to the Battle Stories Line-up post that goes live the 3rd Friday of the month (the same as the post-by date).

Make sure to check back and read some of the stories of your fellow battlers. Leave comments to encourage these writers. And go a step further in supporting one another by sharing each other’s stories on your own blog or social media, whatever you’re most comfortable with!

Basic Rules:

The Prompt Word will be given the First FRIDAY of every month.

Post your story by the 3rd Friday of the same month (this is the same date as the Stories post goes live).

RULES

  1. up to 2000 words max (give or take a few)
  2. fictional tale (or true if you really want)
  3. Any genre that fits within PG-13 (or less)-type Content – let’s keep this family friendly!
  4. Your story must contain the randomly chosen word(s) and/or be centered around the word meaning in a way that shows it is clearly related.
  5. Go for the entertainment value!
  6. Put a link back to your #BlogBattle Short Story in the comments section
  7. Please tweet and otherwise share your battler buddies’ stories across social media.
    1. Use the hashtag #BlogBattle when tweeting all the stories so we can cross-share.
  8. Have fun!

  1. This month’s STORIES post will be delayed to late tonight. I’ve been informed of a concern, and I’m just going to ask that everyone respect each other’s opinions in the comments at this time, even when differing. We all know BlogBattle is a place for writers to be challenged and make connections with other writers, to grow in the writing craft. I haven’t had time this month to update, add to, or read comments or stories, but I’ll be getting to that as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience with me and each other. I appreciate each and every one of you.

    • Oh, boy…
      I am so sorry you have to deal with this Rachel. Cancel culture is real and it made its way here, too, it seems.

      As you always say – you are not responsible for the content since it’s not yours. You only provide a platform for writers to share their pieces and sharpen their craft.

      If there’s a story I don’t like, I stop reading or engage in a discussion with the author (or both) instead of trying to silence them by engaging (i.e. blackmailing) others.

      Thank you for being such a gracious host. I truly appreciate it. Whether I agree with the stories shared on this platform or not.

      • Goldie, as you say ‘BB provides a platform for writers to share their pieces and sharpen their craft.’ I do not and never would deny anyone’s right to submit a story and I deeply resent any suggestion otherwise. This issue has absolutely zero to do with ‘cancel culture’. What I object to is the content which followed, which was a political piece that has no place on BB from any contributor, no matter what part of the political spectrum you are from. What also disappoints me is that I know others share my view but for their own reasons prefer not to express them here.

    • Not to worry everyone! I apologize for not being on top of things again this month. I’ve taken some time to review the concerns presented, and I don’t see any violation of BlogBattle rules. While not everyone will agree on political viewpoints, there’s no restriction on sharing them. I’d like for BB not to turn into a series of political statements, but we’ve had varying levels of politics shared in the past (mostly in a fictional way), and whether said by real or imaginary people has been fine and will continue to be fine. The only entries with non-fiction political speech I’d consider censoring here or discluding would be the kind that invites or incites physical violence against another human being or meets my understanding of hate speech. I haven’t seen that on BB at any time, and I hope to not see it in the future. I trust that everyone who participates respects and cares for each other and that won’t be an issue. ❤

      • It seems I’m in a minority of one, so goodbye all. It was fun while the point of BB was sharing stories (including ones with a political/social bent) and not a platform for political diatribes to accompany stories. All the best in your writing endeavours and thanks for the company over the past couple of years.

        • Sorry to see you go over this, Doug. I reallly don’t believe that BB will become a place for that, but your concerns are noted. I know you have other writing challengs and outlets that you are involved with, so I’m glad of that. Be well, and if you change your mind, you are always welcome!

  2. I just want to say (and I may be totally alone on this) that I’m sad to see any form of politics invading this blog, let alone sententious political nonsense. As I see it, this is a place for writers, not soap-boxes. If this trend continues I will not be returning.

    • I respect your opinion and your potential decision. I just wonder how you feel about your posts shared on this platform that included political topics/ figures. Is it OK until you disagree with someone?

      • As I have said over and over again, I have absolutely no objection to the story itself and I have praised it. It’s the diatribe that followed that is my concern, a fact that you and others seem to be willfully ignoring. If you are sincere about being civil, you’ll do away with terms like ‘cancel culture’ and blackmail when referring to my concerns.
