June 2020 Blog Battle
Our word this month is:
Liberate
You can start writing at any time, but make sure you post your story by the 30th of the month to have your story shared here and on social media.
Once you’ve posted your story to your blog, put a link to it in the comments section, and we’ll add your story to the Battle Stories Line-up post.
Make sure to check back and read some of the stories of your fellow battlers. Leave comments to encourage these writers, and share each other’s stories!
Basic Rules:
The Prompt Word will be given the First Tuesday of Every Month.
Post your story by the 30th of the Same Month.
RULES
- 1000 words max (give or take a few)
- fictional tale (or true if you really want)
- Any genre that fits within PG-13 (or less) Content – let’s keep this family friendly!
- Your story must contain the randomly chosen word(s) and/or be centered around the word meaning in a way that shows it is clearly related.
- Go for the entertainment value!
- Put a link back to your #BlogBattle Short Story in the comments section
- Please tweet and otherwise share your battler buddies’ stories across social media.
- Use the hashtag #BlogBattle when tweeting all the stories so we can cross-share.
- Have fun!

Will give it some thought this week and we can have a chat about the best way forward. Many of my thoughts are actually in this months post. Even my take has used the association method rather than direct prompt word use as a result too! Hope everything’s ok with you x

It is. I’ve just been inordinately busy and I didn’t get to actually read any of June’s stories, except the first few.

This prompt worked and I still have previous prompt words floating around in the storyline. The prompts are directing the way the story is going. Can’t wait until next month to find out what happens next. It’s a different way of writing. Writing without a plan.

This word was planned out and set up about eight months ago for this month. Who knew it would resonate with us all so much at this strange and uncertain time! I’m looking forward to reading what you’ve got. Did you have any struggle with it when you started?

This month, not at all. It fit right into the story I already had planned! You’re right though, there may be several folks who draw on current events for their submissions.

Hope you’re all well and looking after yourselves (and each other!). Managed to get this one done a bit quicker than the last one — written whilst waiting for a moving company to move our furniture to a new apartment, haha! Unfortunately, I’ve got no internet at the moment (using my last bit of mobile data to post this!) — so I’ll be slow in reading others’ stuff and responding again, I’m afraid! On the plus side, I’ve got a lovely new balcony in the sun to write on! 😀

Thanks, Rachael! We’re almost all finished now, but we’ve had to order two more bookshelves because apparently our collection has expanded considerably since our last move! Internet has been restored, but I’m not sure I can say it was timely, ha! July now — time for a new prompt word, soon! Glad to be back in the digital world, even if it was nice to unplug for a bit.
I think the word itself has so many different directions it could be taken. ‘Flute’ was great, but it’s got a tighter scope than such an open word like ‘liberate’. I think both prompts are fun in their own rights, but having something so open ended allows you to go a bit crazy and go wherever you like!

Yes, I totally see what you’re saying about the words. Both offer challenges but definitely within a different frame. I think that’s what I love about a one-word prompt. It makes me want to think of the most obscure, hopefully interesting, way I can use a word.
