April 2019 Blog Battle

Our word this month is:

Shift

You can start writing at any time, but make sure you post your story by the 30th of the month to have your story shared here and on social media.

Once you’ve posted your story to your blog, put a link to it in the comments section, and we’ll add your story to the Battle Stories Line-up post.

Make sure to check back and read some of the stories of your fellow battlers. Leave comments to encourage these writers, and share each other’s stories!

Basic Rules:

The Prompt Word will be given the First Tuesday of Every Month.

Post your story by the 30th of the Same Month.

RULES

  1. 1000 words max (give or take a few)
  2. fictional tale (or true if you really want)
  3. Any genre that fits within PG-13 (or less) Content – let’s keep this family friendly!
  4. Your story must contain the randomly chosen word(s) and/or be centered around the word meaning in a way that shows it is clearly related.
  5. Go for the entertainment value!
  6. Put a link back to your #BlogBattle Short Story in the comments section
  7. Please tweet and otherwise share your battler buddies’ stories across social media.
    1. Use the hashtag #BlogBattle when tweeting all the stories so we can cross-share.
  8. Have fun!

    • Sorry for the SUPREMELY horrendous delay! It seems that several days, if not weeks, of my notifications were absent until recently. 😦 I’m just getting caught up now on all the ones I missed. I’ll have you added to the list and shared asap!

  11. Here is my failed attempt at this month’s challenge, coming in at just over 1800 words. BUT, having actually worked on it (I mean, actually WORKED on it, rather than tossing it off before going to work), I decided to submit it anyway. I honestly can’t see any way to cut it back further without sacrificing either the flow of the narrative, or the development of the shift theme. ☹️

          • So much to do so little time, my friend. Somehow I didn’t get a bunch of my notifications. And the oddest part is that some of the ones I haven’t read are not blue anymore (they’re now gray) as if I read them. It’s oooodddd! Anyway, I’m behind on everything and hopefully I don’t miss anything else important. Some of our poor dear blog battler friends didn’t get their stories listed in a timely manner. 😦 But I think I’ve got them all now. 🙂 phew! How is your book coming, btw?

          • Tell me about time! I am staggered to see us in May already. Feels like I’m actually gaining ground a bit now though. I’m aiming to keep touching base with the BB stories now too. Once the first entry link is up if I see any new ones I’ll help add them as and when. Same with shouting them out and visiting. I so need that blog visit habit back!

            The book is up to proofed. I have a couple of name changes to make as it pulls alongside three other manuscripts and evolved. Still toying with having it edited again though. Not sure on the right route there. My proofer I know and trust. Editors I’d need a recommendation really. Ode to a trusting fingers burnt sole lol

  23. Help! I spelled the title of my “shift” story wrong, and even though I have corrected it, it comes up wrong in the pingback above. Can you please tell me how to correct this error, or can you please correct it for me. Yikes!
