January 2019 Blog Battle

Our word this month is:

Flower

You can start writing at any time, but make sure you post your story by the 30th of the month.

Once you’ve posted your story to your blog, put a link to it in the comments section, and we’ll add your story to the Battle Stories Line-up post.

Make sure to check back and read some of the stories of your fellow battlers. Leave comments to encourage these writers, and share each other’s stories!

The battler who is chosen in a given month will have the opportunity to be interviewed!

Basic Rules:

The Prompt Word will be given the First Tuesday of Every Month.

Post your story by the 30th of the Same Month.

RULES

  1. 1000 words max (give or take a few)
  2. fictional tale (or true if you really want)
  3. Any genre that fits within PG-13 (or less) Content – let’s keep this family friendly!
  4. Your story must contain the randomly chosen word(s) and/or be centered around the word meaning in a way that shows it is clearly related.
  5. Go for the entertainment value!
  6. Put a link back to your #BlogBattle Short Story in the comments section
  7. Please tweet and otherwise share your battler buddies’ stories across social media.
    1. Use the hashtag #BlogBattle when tweeting all the stories so we can cross-share.
  8. Have fun!

      • Glad you liked it – responding to prompts either leaves me blank, or having oddball ideas. I’ve got a story on Medium called “Fat Of The Land” which started off as a piece for a live-reading event. I read the prompt – future diseases – had nothing, waited a week, still nothing, another week… then I had a peculiar idea… and people really like that one. No idea why.

        Commenting on Medium is weird. It lets you “comment” on individual paragraphs rather than a piece overall, and I’m not sure that comments are publicly visible. I mostly started using it because of Lore Publications who have published some of my shorts/flash fiction. There is the “clap” button which is the equivalent of a “like” except Medium allows multiple claps per item from the same reader. This would be incredibly important if any of my stuff was behind their “paywall”, as it would affect any income. However, all of my stories up there are free, so it doesn’t make much difference.

          I made a Medium account specifically so that I could comment on your piece; I saw one from someone else at the end which gave me hope. Alas, all I managed was a clap 😂 I didn’t even realize I could clap more than once! I guess I need to do some more exploring on Medium…

          I’m like that with prompts, too. The more I practice the old “just do it” motto, the better I get at coming up with something, at least. But they are inevitably oddballs. I’ve decided to label myself a “slipstream” writer and just let the weird happen 😂

          I look forward to reading more of your work! I’ll keep clapping just in case you get to slip behind that paywall one of these days.

    • It’s amazing how time flies in the world of life and love and family times! 😉 Glad to hear you’ve been busy but not with anything horrid. Normality…ahhh, if only I knew what that was. lol. I had a good Christmas and new year season. Some changes, but nothing major at this point. 🙂 Hope yours was good!

      • You’re not kidding! These days I blink and a months disappeared. Still, new year and there’s manuscripts awaiting publishing so I might be chasing you down lol. Christmas was quiet as there’s just four of us left. Lost both my parents some years ago now, my dad on Boxing Day so that obviously holds some memoirs. Everything’s cleared away now though and does the house look immense and echo a lot lol. Normality is a very loose term too. Mines well away from what a councillor once suggested 😂😂
